Jordan had sat in his study downstairs but at hearing the other call him he stood. He shook his head and chuckled. He walked up the steps with his head lowered. He almost fell down the stairs when he saw the other. "Why are you wearing a dress?" He knew he had said he could borrow any clothing he wanted but he didn't realize he would borrow it from a female slave. He ran his fingers through his orange mane making the tie at the end come loose. Soft curled at the end pumpkin colored strands fell forward partially covering his eyes.

The young boy smiled up at the man. When he did, he looked even more like a girl than before. He pulled the sleeves up a little bit and pouted when the other laughed. To anyone who didnt' know it, Daruis did look just like a cute little girl. In fact, he coudl pass off as a girl in polite society without the dress if ggiven the right boy's clothing.
"because..." He pouted. "I wanted to sit outside. But I thought it people saw me, they'd know I was a run away. So instead, if I'm a girl, no one will look twice at me. I don't...make a good girl do I?" He looked up at the man. "I'm not allowed outside, am I?"

He made a perfect girl that was what had surprised Jordan. "You look fine, I don't think anyone would be wiser." He moved to put a small lace choker around the other's neck, "The Adam's apple might have given you away, even if its not obvious someone looking close would have seen it." It was admitting he was looking closely at the other but he didn't notice it. He frowned, "Of course you're allowed outside. I'll carry you down the stairs." He picked him up like one would a bride and started down the steps not minding his hair still left loose.

He smiled when the other put the necklace around him. He giggled a little and made a soft noise when he was picked up. He had known girls younger than him to get married. His arms wound around Jordan's neck and he nuzzled against the man's throat as if afraid that he cwould get dropped. A dress was heavier than his rags. As he was carried, he played with Jordan's hair.
"Jordan...thank you again." He whispered, his lips just barely brushign the other's neck. "And I'm sorry that I'm being such a bother to you. Please tell...that lady that i'll give her her dress back later. So not to be mad at me." he seemed really scared of May, and in fact, all dark skinned people.

Jordan almost dropped the other when he felt the nuzzle to his neck. He forced himself to relax and kept walking. He couldn't help but wonder at what Darius thought of him... of the way he smelled and felt. His skin was soft but firm that of a grown man who hadn't had to work much in his life but knew a bit of hardship. He carried the scent of the earth on him... not that he was dirty but he spent a lot of time outside and on the fields with the slaves. He wore a light cologne that had a hint of peppermint to it but not so strong that it assaulted the senses. He didn't even feel the other playing with his hair. "She will understand. May has plenty of dresses."
Jordan sat Darius down in the old rocker on the porch. He had carved it himself, it hadn't taken him very long. The wood was worn though showing it needed a new finish.

Darius actually liked the way he was carried. He felt safe. He felt as if no one could come and take him away to a miliraty prison, where he knew he would die. But not before suffering greatly. He also liked how this man did not small of blood and black powder. Darius hated that scent now. He hated it greatly.
He sighed when he was put on the rocker. he wondered hwo anyone passing might view this. He hoped that all the passing others and the dark men working the fields...He hoped all they saw was a cute little girl. Still, now that he was outside. Daruis couldn't help but gtake in a breath of fresh air and smile softly. "Thank you again. I'll stay put right here, so that I don't burdon you anymore."

Jordan smiled at him and sat down on the almost broken wooden chair. He brushed back his orange mane as if just noticing that it was loose. He was holding it out of his face as the soft breeze kept making it dance in front of his eyes. With the sunlight shining on his mane it looked like fire. "Its not a burden to me, I am a man that is only useful when able to help others. That is what a man of the Lord is for to assist His other children." There was joy in his voice when he spoke about being a priest. It was something that he was extremely proud of. To be a kind man in a time where cruelty was so common place.

Daruis smiled back. Jordan really reminded him of his caprain when he tlaked like this. His captain woudl talk about the glory and honor of a free Virginia. It was not about slaves. it had been about protecting their home. Their property. The North had so little farm land and the south so much. They had used slaves as the reason, but his captain always insisted that the true war was about land. And now his captain was oen with the land. He didn't even get a prper burial.
Daruis didn't even realize he was crying. Tears streamed down his face and he just let them fall. "I'm glad... I'm glad. And you are useful. You are a good person...just like..." He trailed off to brush the wetness off his cheeks.

Jordan looked at him confused not understanding at first why he was crying. It took him a moment to factor in that Darius must have seen a lot of people that had been friends at one point die. He stood up and put his arms around the other letting him cry against his chest. "Hey its ok.... you're away from that life now. You don't have to worry about those things anymore. I will never hand you over to anyone who comes looking for you. There are places to hide here so if ever they do manage to come by this place we can hide you good." He thought the other was also fearing getting sent back to that life. Jordan wouldn't want that life for himself so he would never send another to it.

Jordan gathered him close and Daruis just lay his face against the other's chest and cried. He missed them. he missed his friends. He missed his captain. He missed Captain Barrior the most. He missed Freddy so much it hurt. Still, he wanted to believe this man. he wanted to beleive that he was safe. He sniffed and looked up to the man. Without hthinking, his lips pressed chastly to Jordan's before pullign away. "Thank you... I'll do whatever I can...to make things up to you. I can wrote and read and...I'm okay with cooking...And..." he was tryign to think of ways to repay this man while he healed. It was already clean that his mind would never heal.

Jordan's eyes went impossibly wide when the other kissed him. He couldn't believe Darius had done so. He licked his lips as if he could taste the other. His cheeks flushed red and he looked away. "Really you don't have to. Its ok... this is a place of refuge for people in need. There is no need to pay back, I am pleased already to be of use."

Daruis didn't know if he had done somethgin wrong. The man had suddenly looked away. When he had kissed his captain by accident, the man had acted the same way. Thenm, later that night, they had shared a bedrool. Nothing more happened, but Darius could remember how warm and safe he had felt for the first time since joining. He had forgotten himself and his surrounding again.
"I'm sorry....bout that. Won't happen again. I promise. I just...didn't know how else to thank you. Catpain semeed to like it when I did that...And you remind me of him, so..." He trailed off and looked away softly. Sorrowfully. "I'm really very sorry."

Hearing those words left Jordan with a bad judgment of Darius' captain. He thought for sure now that the man used the boy for personal services. Darius was good looking enough but it was such an evil thing. He looked back at the other seeing he had upset him by turning his gaze away. "No its quite all right. You did nothing wrong. To some people thought it might seem impure. I am a man of the Lord after all and as such I have sworn off physical contacts with others." He realized after he said it that it was implying that the other did sexual things/

Daruis still frowned. He lightly tangled his hands into the dress he was wearing in order to stop the ticks in his hands that happened when he was nervous or afraid.he was more nervous than anything else. "You...swore off...That means I shouldn't hug you when I'm scared...or things like that." He was still innocent somehow. Even though if had lost his innocence to a group of angry black slaves in an evvent that he could not remember.
"I didn't know. I really didn't. I won't...Make you break promises. I...I'll be alright. I can sleep at night... I'll stop hearing the guns and...and..." It was impossible. Even now, he coudl hear the cannon fire and the muskets and the screaming and the dying over the clammor of his drum.

"Oh no that's not what I meant." Jordan took hold of the other's hands to try and calm him. "Those are gestures of kindness and friendship what I meant is like kissing and such. Those things I can not do they are far too great temptations. I have no problem embracing you for comfort." As if to prove it he hugged the other thought he was still reeling a bit from that chaste kiss. He pet the other's head gently. "I understand how difficult it is for you to sleep without someone embracing you, with the things you have seen and been part of it would be cruel of me to deny you such a need."
